How it works & tips

The tight string bed rings like a drum skin. Its pitch goes up with the square root of tension, so the app measures the pitch of your tap and works backwards using the racket's head size and string gauge.

  • Tap the centre of the strings. A fingernail flick or the butt of another racket works well.
  • Measure somewhere quiet, with the phone 5–20 cm from the strings.
  • Press Calibrate… right after a fresh restring, entering the tension it was strung at. This corrects for your racket's frame and string, and makes later readings far more accurate.
  • Pick your racket and string under Edit. The string gauge matters most: tension scales with gauge squared.
  • Expect about 5–10% loss in the first day after stringing. That's normal.
  • Using the same racket over time, the trend is more reliable than any single number.

Head size & string gauge

These are filled in from your racket and string choice. Head sizes are approximate, because makers don't publish string-bed dimensions. For a racket that isn't listed, measure the inside of the strung area from top to throat (length) and side to side (width).

Calibrate this racket

Use this right after a restring, or when you know the racket's real tension. The last reading (--) will be matched to:
